The Black Pope Amapola Tarrazu Coffee & Madagascar Bourbon Vanilla 1 year Bourbon & Whiskey Double Barrel Aged is the full name of this beer, originating from Galea Craft Beers from Antwerp.
A beer that needs some explanation …
To be clear, this Black Pope is a blend of 3 individually cask aged beers.
The beer was split into 3 barrels, which allowed it to mature for 1 year each time.
2 barrels of Buffalo Trace Bourbon barrels were filled, and 1 Whiskey Sauterne barrel.
After these beers matured for 10 months, 2 kilos of freshly roasted coffee beans and 15 vanilla beans were added to each barrel.
2 months later, the 3 barrels were blended into 1 brew, after which vanilla beans were added again.
The result is a pitch-black Stout with a recognizable taste of coffee and vanilla.
There is also something fruity about it, more like black blackberries, which creates a very light acidity. Although this remains rather in the background.
Slightly alcoholic and warming, but very easy to drink due to the sweet factor.
I am a fan!
Serving tip: Combine this beer with a blue-vein blue cheese!
Don’t rely on the Untappdscore, this beer is new, but will undoubtedly score high points.
